From the Desk of Tray Smith - September

Ok, I have a bit of gripe this month. What is with people that don’t have the common courtesy to call or text if they are not going to show? We have had a bit of changeover of people in our shipping and received department this past month, and we had 2 guys that were going to start work this past Monday. Well, one guy showed at 7:45 in the morning to start his first day. The other guy never showed and didn’t bother calling us to say he didn’t want the job, which what I am assuming is what happened. Now, I came from a different cut of cloth than that. I was taught that if you are not going to show for work or going to be more that 1 minute late, you call your employer and let them know. Don’t just not come!

Some people will respond that this is the current generation that is moving into the work force, and maybe so. But the guy that showed is younger than the guy who didn't, and he was here early and ready for work. He thanked me, again, for giving him a chance to work for us. The other guy, again, not even a phone call. So my point to everyone is: take a minute and put yourself in your employer’s shoes. Make a phone call, send a text, or at least a smoke signal because he or she needs to know. It's the right thing to do. Well, that’s all from the desk of Tray Smith for this month.
