1957 was the last year of the Chevrolet vehicles commonly known as the Tri-Fives. The 1957 Bel Air and 210 were given a new body for their last year, and those changes included a twin rocket hood design and much larger tailfins. Collectors, hot rodders and enthusiasts chase after these vehicles even today. In order to protect the body and paint from damage, GM put a lower quarter molding in place on their vehicles. If you get a dent or there is any break in the paint, you run the risk of opening up an area of the body to water, which can start to rust under the paint.
