The Chevelle is one of the most famous nameplates, and the first generation of Chevelles ran from 1964 to 1967. There were two different types of body styling; the two door hardtops (which was known as the Sport Coupe), and the convertible with the four door hardtop sedans (which were known as the Sport Sedan). One of the best parts was that Chevelle offered customers the choice between a V8 engine, and a 6 cylinder engine to choose from. The Chevelle SS was first available in 1964 as a muscle car.
Because the Chevelle was a wildly popular vehicle, it had a large following when it was first released, and it still continues to have a large following. But, the Chevelle still hold some facts that the average person may not know, such as the fact that there was a Canada-only version of the Chevelle, the Acadian Beaumont. It had a slightly different trim and grill, thus making it a rarer version than other Chevelles. Over the course of its lifetime, the Chevelle was built at ten different plants in two countries. These locations included Arlington, Texas; Atlanta, Ga; Baltimore, Md; Flint, Mich; Framingham, Mass; Fremont, Calif; Van Nuys, Calif; Kansas City, Mo.; Oshawa, On, Canada; and Sainte-Thérèse, PQ, Canada. The Chevelle was intended to be created as the vehicle that would succeed the Tri-Five. But, the designers saw it as the spiritual successor to the Bel Air 210. This is because both vehicles shared the same 110-inch wheelbase and, like the Bel Air, buyers could choose from a very large number of body styles and modifications.
